Just a few more days left to go by Rainwater Library and see the exhibit of art by students of Lincoln Elementary School. The Display Cabinet features dolls from around the world, a collection belonging to Nancy Rapp Lehe. Members of Coosa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary invite you to their “Simply Watches” sale next Friday, May 2. Along with a wide variety of watches, gift sets will also be featured. Hours are 7 a.m., until 4 p.m., in the hospital lobby, and all proceeds go to support the auxiliary’s projects. Pink bows in Chelsea are announcing the arrival of Heidi Adell McFadden, daughter of Justin and Amy (Spradley) McFadden. Heidi arrived March 26 at Brookwood Hospital, weighing 6 pounds and 15 ounces. She was 20 ½ inches long. Welcoming Heidi home was her big sister, Haley, who celebrated her third birthday April 7. Proud grandparents are Ben and Renee Spradley of Childersburg, Carol McFadden of Hoover and Richard McFadden of Texas. Also added to Heidi’s admiration society are great grandparents, Joe and Irene Gardner of Childersburg. Bill Ham was in Tuscaloosa last Friday to attend Honors Day at the University of Alabama. Her granddaughter, Abby Wilson was tapped for Mortar Board, Blue Key Society and the Honor Society for the School of Arts and Sciences. Abby’s parents Carol Ann and Hank Wilson were there as were her paternal grandparents, Ann and Bob Wilson of Birmingham. Following the ceremonies, a luncheon was given for honorees and their families, and that evening, Carol Ann and Hank hosted a dinner celebration at the Globe. Joining the family for this occasion were several of Abby’s sorority sisters from Kappa Kappa Gamma. Ida and Hoyt Neal’s granddaughter, Mary Sims was also among University of Alabama students recognized at Honors Day. She was tapped for Phi Beta Honor Society. Mary’s parents, Dr. Marion and Regina (Neal) Sims were there to accept the award for her. She is in Santiago, Chili, where she is taking pre-med courses, and teaching fourth grade English as a second language. Mary’s equally proud paternal grandmother is Ginny Sims of Talladega. Jim and Mildred Hillman had family to visit recently. Their niece, Bernestine Ray was here from Pearl, Miss. Pat Sheehan brushed off her welcome mat and entertained her Tuesday afternoon bridge group at her home in Birmingham last week. Bill Ham and Betsy Burkhalter were guests and members enjoying Pat’s hospitality were Ruth Rollinson, Jane Allen, Liz Baker, Sharil Hunt and Marilyn Peterson. We were glad to hear from former Childersburg residents, Nell and Gordon Brasher this week. Nell is doing much better and Gordon is out of the hospital. They are living at Catherine’s Place, an assisted living home in Daphne. The Ladies Book Club met last Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church, with Joan Armstrong and Edna Harris as hostesses. Joan’s aunt, Alice Laird Hyche of Georgia, presented a review of her new book, “For the Love of Children.” The class of 1958, Childersburg High School will host the 13th annual Grand Reunion, June 28 at Limbaugh Community Center for all who attended Childersburg High School. They are trying to locate classmates Mary Beth Lynn and Nellie Ruth Ritch. If you have information, please call Bobby Overton at 378-1008. More details later.
