Billye Ann Faulkner invites you to join Billye Ann’s Bunch for a trip to Bluegrass Country!
The tour departs June 25th for four days and three nights with a first stop in Bardstown, Ky. Dinner will consist of “fine country vittles,” followed by a performance of the “Mountain Dew Hillbillies.” Later a visit to Stephen Foster’s home will feature a performance of the musical, “My Old Kentucky Home.”
There will be rides along the Bluegrass Parkway, a visit to Shaker Town, and a cruise aboard the riverboat, “Dixie Belle.”
In Lexington, the travelers will visit Keeneland Race Course, and the University of Kentucky. They’ll have lunch at the famous Boone Tavern in Berea and visit Bearea College.
They will travel through the Smokey Mountains to Pigeon Forge Tenn., where one evening will be spent at the Country Tonight Theatre. The final stop will be Gatlinburg with time to browse in the quaint shops. For more information, call Billye Ann a 205/699-6559.
Congratulations are certainly in order for Dick Whatley. He was recently named “Outstanding Volunteer” for the state of Alabama, and was notified thus week he has received the same honor for the Southeast! Dick will go to Washington, D.C., in July for national finals.
He and Juanita were joined this week by Norma and Gene Morris for lunch at the Harbert Center, where Dick and Gene both were recognized for volunteer work transporting veterans in the area to Birmingham for medical attention.
There’s a blue bow out at the home of Sumpter and Jennifer DeGaris to announce the arrival of their first born!
Master Parker Sumpter DeGaris arrived April 10th at Brookwood Hospital, weighing 7 pounds and 12 ounces. His proud grandparents are Kate DeGaris and Daryl and Becky Woods of Jacksonville.
The good news at Nancy Tomlin’s home is son David Tomlin is back from his second tour of duty in Iraq! Equally proud are his grandparents, David and Flora Bryant.
David is now stationed in Great Falls, Montana, joined by wife, Kim children, Seanna Rae and Christopher.
Congratulations are in order for Jackie DeGaris of Birmingham. She retired from HealthSouth this week after 50 years of service!
There was a party given for her on Thursday afternoon.
Birthday congratulations are in order for Thelma Crump. She celebrated last Friday with a family luncheon. Special guest at the party was her aunt, Thelma Turner of Eastaboga.
Wednesday was Thelma’s granddaughter Jana (Mrs. Mark) Masters birthday and there was a family dinner party for her.

AND IN LINCOLN

Glen and Top Graham enjoyed a trip to Augusta, Ga. They visited his sister Nita Graham, who treated them to tickets to the Master’s while they were there!
Maggie Word and Chelse Ramsey, students at Drew Middle School were recently chosen “teachers choice” for their history project on the depression. Maggie’s great grandmother, Virginia McKay was honored to be interviewed by the two, and to be a part of their wining project.
The two young ladies went on to win the top state award and will go to Washington, D.C., in June for national competition!
Maggie is the daughter of Yevette and Charlie Word and Chelse’s parents are Scott and Roxanne Ramsey.
