Special wedding anniversaries are being celebrated around town… Wallace and Cleudie Cannon celebrated their 66th just recently! Betty and Henry (Pop) Tankersley celebrated their 55th and Keith and Sharon Weldon celebrated their 25th. Wedding congratulations are in order for Ronnie Lightsey and Pam Hutchison. They are just home from a honeymoon trip to Catalina Island and San Diego! Their honeymoon began with a stay at Torey Pines Lodge just outside San Diego. Torey Pines is hosting the U.S. Open this week, and preparations were being made for the arrival of Tiger Woods and many other golf greats. Ron and Pam got a behind-the-scenes peek. From there, Ronald and Pam were off to Catalina Island, just off the coast of Los Angeles. They exchanged wedding vows June 2 on the beach in Avalon at sunset. The couple wrote their own wedding vows. Pam carried a bouquet of fresh island flowers tied with ribbon and a special surprise for them was Ron’s daughter, Roma Lightsey, singing “The Lord’s Prayer” at the ceremony. While Pam enjoyed a day at the spa, Ron and Roma enjoyed a day’s sightseeing in Hollywood. The Universal Studio fire the day before changed the plans, but the pair had a ball seeing Beverly Hills, dozens of celebrities’ homes, the legendary Walk of Fame and other famous studios. They also enjoyed watching a movie being filmed on Hollywood Blvd. Philip Currie has placed a ring on the “third finger, left hand,” of Katie Kuhlman of Birmingham. They are planning a small family wedding on the island of St. Thomas in September. Margaret O’Kelley, Nancy (Mrs. Henry) Nunnalley and daughter Jennifer were in Birmingham Sunday afternoon to attend a miscellaneous bridal tea for Margaret’s granddaughter, Stephanie Mizzell. She and Kyle Gossman will be married July 26. Margaret was among the members of First Baptist Church’s WMU group who met Monday night and enjoyed hearing David and Katie (Pugh) Kizzah speak. They talked about their upcoming mission work in Zambia, Africa. Katie and David are visiting her parents, Keith and Teresa Pugh in Tuscaloosa. Dr. Jim and Villa Wright are just home from a summer vacation in the nation’s capital. They took their 13-year-old grandson, Gage Wright, of Panama City for his first tour of Washington. Gage especially enjoyed tours of the Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History, as well as tours of Mt. Vernon, Arlington and the capitol building. Donna and Doug Dickey had a delightful visit with daughter Brenda Dickey recently. Brenda was here from Orlando, Fla. Jane and John Quenelle enjoyed having their daughter Lynn Quenelle from Atlanta last week. She assisted her mother in hosting her Thursday bridge group for play and lunch. Those enjoying Jane’s hospitality were club members Frances Conn, Susan Green, Mary Ann Ham, Sarah Nell Hightower, Betty Hollis and guests, Ann Lott, Ann Newman and Sarah Whitman. Mary Tom Abernathy entertained her Wednesday bridge group this week for play and lunch. Frances Conn was winner of high score and others vying for honors were Molly Curie, Martha Sims, Peggy Vaughn, Kay Cirlot, Sarah Kelley and guest, Saran Scott.
