This is the BIG weekend! Time for Coosa Fest 2008 and a great one is in store! It will all begin with breakfast at the Grist Mill, and what a feast! Here will be hot biscuits, eggs, bacon, sausage, and sorghum syrup for sopping! And of course, there will be plenty of good ole’ grits, made right there at the mill. At 10 a.m., a painting of the Grist Mill, done by Sylacauga artist, Shirley Pody will be unveiled, and among honored guests attending the event will be Congressman Mike Rogers. There will be special events in downtown Childersburg all day, with plenty of good food and entertainment. The Grits and Cornbread contest will take place again this year, so whip up your favorite recipe and join in! And while you’re at it, get a few recipes to me for our annual Holiday Cookbook! Lots of folks are still talking about how much they enjoyed Coosa Valley Medical Center’s Community Links program, which was featured Monday morning at Rainwater Library. Dr. Shankar Yalamanchili, (Dr. Chili), hospital psychiatrist, was guest speaker and he talked about Alzheimer’s, Dementia and Depression among the Elderly. This is a very timely subject for many families who are facing these issues right now. The folks from Coosa Valley will be back next month for another informative program. It begins at noon, and you should come about 11:30 a.m. Bring a sandwich for lunch and they will furnish dessert and drink. We will keep you posted. The Rev. William and Ann Casaday were in Demopolis recently to attend the 50th anniversary of Fairhaven Baptist Church. The church was organized in 1958, and the Rev. Casaday was its first minister. Ann and William were married that same year, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Ethel Perkins enjoyed a late summer trip to New Jersey. She visited her daughter Elizabeth and Todd Meyer and the “apple of her eye,” three year-old Katherine. Jane and Lewis Allen were in Atlanta, to see grandson, Brandon Halls run in a cross-country competition at nearby Camden. Brandon came in fifth in junior varsity, with 75 competitors. He is the son of Malcolm and Margie (Allen) Halls. Troy and Charlotte Deason had company this week. Friends, Candice and Mark Brown visited from Pell City. Happy birthday Terry Kay Cleckler. She blew out candles last week, and husband, Bubba says she was celebrating “the 25th anniversary of her 39th birthday!” There was a family dinner party at Marble City Grill in Sylacauga, to honor Terry Kay’s special day. Bruce and Nancy Hunt are looking forward to a visit from their son, Brad Hunt, Brad and his son, Henry will be visiting from Santa Fe, N.M., and will also visit his grandmother, Sharil Hunt. Sharil entertained her Tuesday afternoon bridge group this week. Barbara Hix was a guest and members enjoying her hospitality were Jane Allen, Liz Baker, Jeanette McGeever, Marilyn Peterson, Ruth Rollinson, and Connie Zanotti. Members of Coosa Garden Club met Monday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Barbara Scharfenstein and Dot Manes were hostesses, and members answering roll call were Mary Tom Abernathy, Elaine Parker, Pat Kallenbach, Sharil Hunt, Ruth Rollinson, Frances Gaston, Marilyn Kline, Edna Harris, Donna Rentfroe, Nadine Adams and Marian Payant.
