10-01-2008
A flip of the calendar this morning tells us the holiday season is just around the corner! There are still three days left to enter our Holiday Cookbook, 2008. I sure would like to include a recipe from you. How about it? Members of the Coosa Fest committee send a special thanks to the hundreds who came and made the event a great success this year. Congratulations to those who won the various contests. Louise and James Edwards enjoyed a rent late summer trip to Pensacola, Fla. They visited son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Lanette Edwards. Reba and Albert Puckett had fun having lunch with their seven year-old grandson, Josh Puckett at his school, Creek View Elementary School in Alabaster. Josh is the son of John and Kristen Puckett and he has a little brother Colin, who is three months old. The Pucketts specially enjoyed a weekend at the beautiful Guntersville State Lodge. They joined Albert’s brother, Ronald and Shirley Puckett of Decatur for the mini vacation. Barbara and Paul Collier had recent guests. Long-time friends, Sandra and Lester Mitchell visited from Huntsville. The Colliers also enjoyed attending the Quinn family reunion in Walker County. This is descendants of Barbara’s mother who was one of eleven children. Barbara remembers her family crossing the Black Warrior River on a wooden ferry back in the early fifties. Bill Ham sat with her “grand dog” Lucy at Lake Marin last week. She and Lucy were at the summer home of her daughter Carol Ann and Hank Wilson while they were in Colorado visiting their son Robert. He is a student at the University of Colorado. While Bill was there, she enjoyed visits from her brothers, Tom and Evelyn Jones of Burkeville and Jim and Flo Jones of Tallassee. It’s football season and the highways are always full of fans on Saturdays traveling to watch their favorite teams. Seen among the “War Eagles” on the Plains last Saturday were B.J. Meeks and his daughter Wendy and Jerry Burpee of Huntsville, Danny Barnett, Jerome Crowe, Chad Slaten, Jim and Rita Patton, Tut and Karen Wyatt and daughter, Lauren, and Marvin and Judy Rochelle. The Rochelle’s son Blake and several of his friends dropped by for “tailgating.” Thoughts and prayers age requested for Mike Allen and his wife, the former Karen Rothenanger, who live in Jacksonville, Fla. Mike has had to be moved to an assisted living facility due to his illness. Mike is the son of Mary and John Allen and Karen’s parents are Flo Rothenanger and the late Charles Rothenanger.
