A band ready to take off

Nothing is more important to this group of guys than making it big in the music world and seeing the name “ESKER” in bright lights and bold letters.
Four talented young men known as guitarist and vocalist Landon Williams, 21, of Center Point Acres along with guitarist Chris Looney, base guitarist Nathan Truett and drummer Joey Rudisell, all 22 and all live in Childersburg, make the group.
ESKER has played a lot locally as well as for out of town competitions.
The guys performed against 48 other bands at Energenza in Birmingham and won the state championship.
The next competition the guys will make a performance at will be in Atlanta June 21 to compete in the Southeastern Division where the venue will be “Center Stage”.
Williams said the band has no plans to make Atlanta their stopping point and has their goal set to make the next stop to be held in Chicago.
If the group wins the National Division in Chicago, they will receive a free recording and new equipment and also travel to Germany to compete in the International Division.
The guys have regular day jobs; however, there passion is doing what they love most and that is creating alternative rock music.
Every piece of their 25 completed selections of music has a small part of each member incorporated in it both in the lyrics and the musical arrangement.
“We all just work together and we brainstorm coming up with the composition and then later we all work on lyrics,” Williams said.
Williams and Rudisell have played together since 1998 and Truett and Looney joined in 2000.
Although the guys say they have three shows a month, they are working toward having three a week. They also say they are looking for sponsorships as well.
“We are ready to start playing more in Birmingham, summer seems to pick up more gigs for us,” said Williams.
According to their biggest fan, William’s mother, Debi Tubbs, the group played in her garage for eight years and she said now that the three share an apartment, she misses them practicing all the time. She said she has never missed a single performance.
“They really are a great group of talented young guys,” Tubbs said. “They are just so talented individually and mesh so well together. I am proud of them as musicians, but more than that as people and friends. They are so dedicated to what they do.”
Members of the band say they owe a lot to other peer bands such as “beitthemeans” and “Pleasant Hill” who have worked hard helping them get the ball rolling introducing them to gigs and introducing them to others in the music business.
“These bands are our good friends and fans,” Rudisell said. “They have helped us a lot and support us in many ways.”
