Clay Bowl: A fall Friday night

A fall Friday night.

It brings out the young and old to bask under the lights.

Some recall past games, their own days cheering or running or playing in the band. Others gather to make their pitch for sheriff or judge or Alabama’s Statehouse and embrace the ultimate politicking venue: two sides, one game, an entire county and a tradition that runs deep every Friday night, no matter where the whistle blows.

Yes, in its mix, there’s a football game.

But before and after, there is first a community.


Divided by color: Football fans were once split by race, now by schools' hues
The rivalry remains the same
Tales from the borderline
Big business off the field
Pride and tradition: For the students, it means more than just a game
