Meth lab found in room at Days Inn after small explosion

By Elsie Hodnett
10-26-2007

LINCOLN — Officials responding to a fire at the Days Inn in Lincoln have found what appears to be part of a methamphetamine lab in a hotel room.

“The items found at the motel were consistent with a meth lab,” said Jason Murray, Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force commander.

Officials said the Lincoln Police and Fire departments responded to a call about a possible fire at the Days Inn shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday.

Lincoln patrol officer Rick Clay said officers responding to the scene noticed what appeared to be a methamphetamine lab and notified the task force.

“There was a small explosion, and we evacuated the first floor,” Clay said.

Officials said no injuries were reported and the hotel room sustained mostly water damage.

“The incident is still under investigation,” Murray said.
