Major exits in Montgomery on I-65 to reopen Friday

08-08-2008

MONTGOMERY — Motorists traveling south through Montgomery are going to find some major exits reopening on Friday.

The southbound exits for South Boulevard, Edgemont Avenue and Fairview Avenue have been closed since July 25 due to work on rebuilding the busy interstate and adding lanes. State Transportation Director Joe McInnes says the exits should reopen by 9 a.m. Friday. That's well ahead of schedule because McInnes said rebuilding work on the southbound lanes took about half the time expected.

Transportation officials say southbound traffic on I-65 will be reduced to one lane about 7 p.m. Thursday so traffic barriers can be removed. Then traffic will be shifted into two new southbound lanes and the exits reopened.

The Transportation Department is spending nearly $100 million to rebuild and widen I-65 in the Montgomery area.
