5 men bound with tape, had throats cut
BIRMINGHAM — Five men who were found slain in a suburban Birmingham apartment this week were bound with duct tape before their throats were slashed, authorities said Friday, as they identified three of the men and appealed to the Hispanic community for help in the investigation.
The men, last seen alive Sunday, were discovered in a locked apartment at the Cahaba Lakes complex Wednesday night. Based on initial autopsy results, officials said the victims did not appear to have been shot first.
Shelby County District Attorney Robby Owens, 58, said it's the largest multiple killing in the county in his memory.
He said further details in the case were being withheld while authorities await autopsy reports.
