Traffic blitz nets high number of citations
MONTGOMERY — A statewide traffic blitz by Alabama state troopers and other law enforcement officers continues through the weekend.
According to figures from the Department of Public Safety, troopers have issued an impressive 16,521 traffic tickets and warnings through Thursday.
They include 77 DUI arrests; more than 6,100 for speeding; and another 2,891 for seat belt/child restraint violations.
Mississippi and Tennessee are also joining Alabama. It marked the fourth time the states have teamed up for a "Take Back Our Highways" campaign.
The crackdown started Monday and ends Sunday.
