PELL CITY — The Lakeside Hospice Blues Fest ’08 is set and ready to go.

“We are really excited about the Blues Fest,” said Beth Green, executive director of Lakeside Hospice in Pell City.

The Lakeside Hospice Blues Fest ’08 is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Lakeside Park in Pell City. The event is free, however donations will be accepted benefiting Lakeside Hospice in Pell City. Attendees should bring their own chairs. No coolers are allowed.

“If you love good music and good fun, this is the place to be,” said Dr. Mark Fielding, committee chairman for the Blues Fest.

Fielding said the Blues Fest ’08 will start at 11 a.m. with The Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer, and Pell City Idol Winner Jameson Willis singing The Star-Spangled Banner.

Other Pell City Idol winners, including Alexis Walsh, Shelby Duke, Mary Jean Turpening, and Richie Jackson will perform.

At noon, The Erin Mitchell Band, who took second place in this year’s Birmingham Battle of the Blues Bands, will take the stage and play until 1:30 p.m.

After The Erin Mitchell Band, Pell City Tae Kwon Do Plus will perform a demonstration.

At 2 p.m., The Thomas Henry Band will take the stage and play until 3:30 p.m.

STARRZ Performing Arts Center will follow The Thomas Henry Band.

From 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Po Monkey, who took first place at this year’s Birmingham Battle of the Blues Bands, will take the stage.

“We have vendors as well who will offer a wide variety of food and merchandise,” Fielding said.

Food choices will include barbecue, pizza, Mexican food, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tamales, funnel cakes, cotton candy, tea, bottled sodas and water, hot dogs, nachos, baked goods, hamburgers, candy, chips, snow cones, and more.

Vendor booths will include information brochures and giveaways, and also cosmetics, crafts, scented candles, purses, flip-flops, home décor, jewelry, paintings, wood sculptures, airbrush tattoos, hand-built wheel-thrown pottery, hand-crafted custom fitness and dance hoops, T-shirts, floral designs and creations, cloth Christmas ornaments, pillow covers, skin and body care, fused glass, and more.

“We will have our Blues Fest ’08 t-shirts available in both black and grey for sale,” Fielding said. “The T-shirts have our Blues Fest ’08 logo on the front, and our sponsors listed on the back. Proceeds from the T-shirts will benefit Lakeside Hospice.”

Fielding said there is also assigned parking for custom show cars and motorcycles for attendees to view.

“We are looking forward to a big crowd,” he said. “Just bring your chairs and come out for an afternoon of great music and good food.”

Green said she hopes the Blues Fest ’08 is a great success.

“The Blues Fest is supporting a very good cause,” she said. “And it is a fun event to attend and enjoy with your family.”
