SYLACAUGA — In celebration of National Hospital Volunteer Week and National Hospital Week, the Coosa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary presented the hospital with a $50,000 check Monday.“I can’t tell you how generous this is,” said Glenn Sisk, the hospital’s chief executive officer. “It takes a lot of expenses for day-to-day operations and this contribution is greatly appreciated.”
“This is a big deal for the medical center,” said Vanessa Green, vice president of Senior Support Services and Marketing. “This is just another great example of the services Coosa Valley has to offer.”
The Coosa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary was organized 26 years ago.
The 66-member group of volunteers give of their time, according to Green, this is the largest amount of money the auxiliary has been contributed at any one time.
The group usually gives anywhere from $75,000 to $100,000 in a year’s time.
“They give at various times throughout the year to our facility, usually purchasing a piece of needed equipment,” Green said.
“This group is so special to the hospital and gives in so many ways,” Green said. “Every dollar they receive goes back into the hospital.”
Although the Holiday Tree of Love is the auxiliary’s annual fundraising event, any time items are purchased from the auxiliary’s jewelry sale, the hospital’s vending machines or the gift shop, the proceeds go to the hospital.
While the funds are being allocated to the hospital’s general fund, they came at an opportune time as the hospital’s Extended Care Unit is undergoing a facelift. The project will create an additional 10 beds and will be furnished with new furniture.
The Nursing Home is also getting a facelift in the final stage of the hospital’s renovation projects.
Above and beyond the $50,000 check that was presented, the auxiliary is also making plans to have stained glass windows added to the hospital’s chapel.
“The stained glass windows will be another nice addition to our facility at Coosa Valley,” Green said.
“We are always giving back,” volunteer Montine Webb said. “There are always little things the hospital needs throughout the year that are not included in the proposed budget and when they approach us and ask us to consider helping, we always want to do our best.”
