TALLADEGA COUNTY — A high-speed pursuit that began in Coosa County early Monday morning ended after the suspect being pursued by police wrecked on Alabama 21 at the Grist Mill Road intersection south of Talladega.“There was a BOLO (be on the lookout) call on a vehicle from Alex City, and the Goodwater police chief (Gerald Whetstone) spotted the vehicle. The chase started in Coosa County and went into Talladega County,” Lt. Michael Payne with Alabama State Troopers Jacksonville Post said.
According to Payne, Sylacauga police were able to spike the tires of the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect continued to attempt to escape.
“The suspect drove on the rims and continued to Grist Mill Road where he hit a sign and went down the shoulder of the road before coming to a stop,” he said.
The suspect was taken into custody at the accident scene, and an ambulance was called in to check the suspect for injuries, but no significant injuries were found, Payne said.
The suspect was the only occupant of the vehicle. He was being held at the Goodwater City Jail Monday afternoon, but his name was not released at that time.
At the scene of the accident, Alexander City police detective William Grant said the driver was a suspect in an armed robbery at a convenience store in Alexander City that occurred about 4:30 Monday morning.
