TALLADEGA COUNTY

Lincoln, Munford residents vote on school tax today

By Brandon Fincher
05-06-2008

TALLADEGA COUNTY – Residents in the Lincoln and Munford school districts will vote today on extending the 5-mil tax for schools.

Currently, the tax, which was approved by voters in 1999 and will not be raised or lowered, is set to expire in 2016. If the extension is approved, the tax will expire in 2038. Tax money raised in the Munford district will only go to Munford schools, and tax money raised in the Lincoln district will only go to Lincoln schools.

You may vote only if your residence is in one of the two school districts, and polling places will be in the same place as you would vote in federal and state elections.

The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will be located at the Eastaboga Community Center, the old Lincoln High School gym, the National Guard Armory, the Talladega Central High School gym, the Stemley Volunteer Fire Department, the old Silver Run school, the Ironaton Volunteer Fire Department, the Waldo City Hall and the old Munford High School.

The school districts overlap in the voting districts of Eastaboga and the National Guard Armory, but voters can only vote for one school district.
