TALLADEGA COUNTY – Two men have been arrested on first-degree kidnapping charges after allegedly attempting to abduct a local woman.Talladega County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Capt. Mike Hubbard said authorities arrested Jerome Garrett, 44, of 1348 Howell Cove Road, Alpine, and W.D Evans, 49, of Community Road, Talladega, on the kidnapping charges.
Hubbard said the kidnapping occurred Sunday night when the victim, who was not identified, went to a residence in the Hepzibah community to meet one of the men, whom she knew.
When she arrived, Hubbard said Evans and Garrett overpowered the victim and bound her feet and hands together with duct tape.
The men later placed the victim in a vehicle and drove away from the residence. The vehicle later broke down on Renfroe Tower Road.
The men eventually removed the duct tape from the victim’s feet, and she later escaped by running away from her captors and getting help at a nearby residence, Hubbard said.
Authorities still do not know what Evans and Garrett planned to do with the victim, according to Hubbard.
In another incident, Hubbard said the Sheriff’s Department arrested a 49-year-old man from the Sylacauga area on charges of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy.
Hubbard said a 15-year-old girl is the alleged victim in the case.
No bond has been set on the suspect.
