PELL CITY — Alagasco employees are expected to move into the new St. Clair Operations Center in a couple of weeks.“We have converted an existing building on Industrial Park Drive in Pell City to house an operations center for Alagasco,” said Susan Delenne, director of corporate communications for Alagasco.
Delenne said the St. Clair Operations Center will serve Pell City, Moody, Leeds, Margaret, Springville, Odenville, Ragland, Riverside, Vincent and Harpersville.
She said the St. Clair Operations Center will not be a payment center, and customers will not come to that location. The new office will house employees performing maintenance and service work, construction work such as laying new gas lines, and installing new service lines to new and existing homes, businesses, industries and commercial properties.
“We don’t have an opening date yet, but we expect it to open in the next couple of weeks,” she said.
Delenne said the Pell City location is ideal because of its convenience to Interstate 20, U.S. 231, Alabama 174 and Alabama 144.
“All of those are main arteries that lead to the service territory we will serve from the Pell City office,” she said.
Delenne said the new operations center building is approximately 10,000 square feet, and will house approximately 15 employees.
“The employees are currently working out of our Leeds office,” she said.
Delenne said the Alagasco Leeds office is also an operations center.
“We will transfer the employees from the Leeds office to the Pell City office, then close the Leeds office,” she said.
Delenne said Alagasco has been a part of the Pell City community since it purchased the Pell City municipal gas system in 1987.
“Pell City is more centrally located (to the service area),” she said. “It is also closer to other Alagasco offices in Anniston and Gadsden.”
Delenne said Alagasco had wanted an office in Pell City for a long time.
“St. Clair County is one of the fastest growing areas in the state,” she said. “Having this location gives us the best opportunity to position personnel and resources to capitalize in that high growth area. Everything just fell into place.”
Delenne said the employees are excited and thrilled about the new Pell City location.
“We see this as a permanent location for us,” she said. “We have found it very easy to work with the Pell City community, and we are looking forward to being involved in the community.”
