FRED GODBEHERE

HUEYTOWN — Fred Godbehere, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Odessa Godbehere. He is survived by his children, Rubye (James) Merritt and Freddy (Nancy) Godbehere. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Teresa (Bobby) Newsome, Rick (Chelle) Godbehere, Brent and Melissa Merritt, Renee (Andy) Whorton, and Brad (Heather) Palmer. He had twelve great-grandchildren, Robby, Holly and Emily Newsome; Jake and Ryleigh Merritt; Jackson, Joshua and Lydia Whorton; Ross, Anna and Greyce Godbehere; and Ella Palmer; one sister, Janie Maples; and one brother, Vernon Godbehere; his devoted sister-in-law, Louise Hammonds; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Mr. Godbehere left behind a legacy of love and service. He was the rock upon which a strong and closely tied family was founded. His reputation as a fair and honest businessman was unmatched. He touched the lives of so very many by living the Christian example. He passed as he lived, peacefully and with dignity. Mr. Godbehere was born in Ohm, Tenn., in 1921. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946, after which he relocated to Sylacauga where he lived until 1964. He was a member of Glen Iris Baptist Church for 44 years, where he served as Chairman of the Board of Education at Glen Iris School. Mr. Godbehere was a great entrepreneur, founding and selling several companies over the course of the years. In 1983, he founded his last company, Industrial Scrap Processors, which thrives today in the hands of his children and grandchildren. He retired from the company in 1998 due to his declining health. A celebration of Mr. Godbehere's life will be at on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. at Glen Iris Baptist Church. the Rev. Chris Lamb will officiate. Interment shall be in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens will direct the service.

MARGARET ALLRED HACKNEY

LINCOLN — Graveside Rites for Mrs. Margaret Allred Hackney, 83, will be Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at Lincoln Cemetery with the Rev. Finley Holbrook and the Rev. Bill Goodwin officiating. Mrs. Hackney died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008 at Citizens BMC, Talladega. She was a member and Treasurer of Lincoln Baptist Church for 28 years. She also was a member of the choir and the Quest Club. Survivors are her husband of 62 years, Jim H. Hackney of Lincoln; daughter, Marguerite Hackney of Houston, Texas; sons, J. Tim Hackney (Sandra) of Lincoln and Thomas A. Hackney of Birmingham; sisters, Lucille Donahoo of Commerce, Ga., and Linda Abercrombie of Mary Ester, Fla.; brother, Harry Allred of Gainesville, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Kim Rogers, Angela Hackney, Jay Hackney, Rebekah Hackney, Michael Hackney, Gabe Hackney and Jordan Hackney; three great grandchildren, Keaton Rogers, Kaylyn Rogers and Brayden Abbott. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 1-1:45 p.m. at Lincoln Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are Ed Hall, Gene Hollon, Jack Baggett, T.W. Dulaney, Johnny Johnson and Charles Baggett. Honorary pallbearers are the Gleaner Sunday School Class.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's or favorite charity. Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

ROGER L. HEARD

ALEX CITY — Roger L. Heard died Oct. 5, 2008 at Russell Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright's Funeral Home.

MILDRED MONCRIEF

DOTHAN — Mrs. Mildred Moncrief a resident at Wesley Manor Retirement Home died Friday, Oct. 3, 2008. She was 94. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Dr. Joe Johnson and the Rev. Bob Gross officiated and Ward Wilson Funeral Home directed.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Parkway, Ste 2, Dothan, Alabama 36303 or to Wesley Manor, 718 Honeysuckle Rd., Dothan, Alabama 36305. Mrs. Moncrief was born June 14, 1914 in South Carolina, the daughter of the late Duckworth Sharpe Hobson and Daisy Moore Hobson. She moved to Dothan in 1952 and worked at the Darling Shop and B.C. Moore. She and her husband were active members of First Baptist Church Dothan for more than 50 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Edgar Franklin Moncrief; brother, Hop Hobson; sisters, Nannie Thrasher and Jane Parks.

Survivors include daughter, The Revonda Deal and her husband, John of Dothan; brother, Sam Hobson of Anderson, S.C.; grandchildren, Jonja Jacks (Ken) of Indonesia; Sheddy Deal of Houston, Texas; Eddy Deal (Krista) of Charleston, S.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Maria Jacks, Rachel Jacks, Angela Jacks, Tent Deal, Alexander Deal, Trey Deal, Sofia Deal; several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the Staff of Wesley Manor for their love, care, respect and to Wiregrass Hospice.

RICKEY TIMOTHY PARKER

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Rickey Timothy Parker, 49, will be Thursday, Oct. 9, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Parker died Oct. 5, 2008 at his residence. Survivors are his wife, Barbara Green Parker of Sylacauga; son, Issac Abbott of Opelika; daughter, Brittney Green of Sylacauga; mother, Elsie Parker of Sylacauga; brother, Tony Parker of Sylacauga; and sisters, Tereasa McDowell and husband Mark of California, Connie Ragsdale and husband Chris of Sylacauga and Jill Blanchard of Sylacauga. Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 5-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel.

Pallbearers are Nick Armstrong, Mike Deupree, Roland Webster, Gerald Alexander, Adam Duncan and Corey Hayes. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

DOROTHY L. SMITH

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Dorothy L. Smith, 82, will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 1 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel. Ms. Smith died Oct. 3, 2008. Survivors are son, Ed (Sandra) Oliver; three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one brother and one sister. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 11:30 a.m. until time of service. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

FREDRICK DARYL TARWATER

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Fredrick Daryl Tarwater, 48, will be Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel with the Rev. David Houston officiating. Burial will be in Tallassahatchie Cemetery. Mr. Tarwater died Oct. 5, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, Birmingham. Survivors are brother, Kenneth Earl Tarwater of Childersburg; sisters, Frances Tarwater Horton and husband Wayne of Oxford and Kathy Tarwater Martin of Childersburg; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 5-8 p.m. at Childersburg Chapel.

Pallbearers are William Tarwater, Carl Damone, Kelvin Damone, Don Gardner, Jimmy Sexton and J.R. Sexton. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the service.
