VIVIAN YARBROUGH ALLEN

RAGLAND — Funeral services for Vivian Yarbrough Allen, 60, will be Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Ragland, with the Rev. Wallace Pinson, Elder Raymond Allen Jr., Elder Mitchell Jordan and the Rev. Anthony Soles officiating. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery, Ragland. Mrs. Allen will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Allen died Oct. 6, 2008 at St. Vincent's South. She was educated in the St. Clair County School System, attended Gadsden State Jr. College and received her B.A. degree in 1969 from Alabama A&M University. She retired as the social service manager of St. Clair County Head Start with 15 years of service and was a former employee of Talladega College, the State of Alabama and Contel Communications. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Ragland where she was a member of the choir, the missionary society and a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of Worthy Matron of McGregor Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and was active in the Lilly B. Chapter of OES. She was preceded in death by parents, Samuel and Mammie Yarbrough; brothers, Lenwood and Melvin Yarbrough; and sister, Mable Yarbrough. Survivors are her husband, James Allen of Ragland; son, Jerone (Deanna) Allen of Pell City; daughter, Venishia Allen of Nashville, Tenn.; grandsons, Tevin Allen and Jallen Allen both of Pell City; sister, Emma High of Ragland; brothers, Willie (Carol) Yarbrough of Anniston, Sam (Earline) Yarbrough Jr. of Lansing, MI, and Johnny (Lenora) Yarbrough of Birmingham; and mother-in-law, Estelle Allen of Ragland. The family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 10, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

ANTHONY STEWART "TONY" DAVIS

HIRAM, Ga. — Funeral services for Mr. Anthony Stewart "Tony" Davis, age 42, former resident of Talladega, will be Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Thompson and the Rev. Sam Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the Midway Memory Gardens. Mr. Davis passed away Oct. 6, 2008 in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin. Survivors are his mother, Fay Davis of Southport, FL; Cindy Davis of Hiram, Ga.; two brothers, Doug Davis Jr. (Alean) of Southport, FL, Waymon Davis (Cindy) of Talladega; one sister, Patricia Davis of Talladega; three nieces, Jessie, Porsche, Macie; three nephews, Timothy, Austin, Terry. He is also survived by his uncles, aunt, cousins and many wonderful friends who were also his family. He was a very outgoing, fun loving person. He was a wonderful brother, uncle, and a magnificent son. Anthony was preceded in death by his father, Douglas W. Davis Sr.; and grandparents, Clarence and Ann Stewart, A.V. and Myrtle Davis. Active pallbearers are Robert Thomas, David Isreal, Mike Walker, Kent Megorden, Timothy Davis, Richard Jones, Rodney Mayo and Jeff Mayo. Honorary pallbearers are Robert Patterson, Van Dupriest, Wayne Gallops, Bob Armbrester, Todd Hurst, Jake Deese and Billy Freeman. Anthony was a native of Talladega and had been a resident of Hiram, Ga., for the past 23 years. He was a 1984 graduate of Talladega High School. He was a superintendent of a commercial construction company. He was a member of the Bass Masters and hunting club and the biggest Alabama football and Atlanta Braves fan. The family will receive friends at the Talladega Funeral Home Saturday from 6-9 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct, 65001 Hwy 77 N., Talladega, Ala. 35160.

ALICE DUNCAN

TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Duncan, 58, will be Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at Freedom Holy Ghost Headquarters Mission, Bishop Joseph Twyman, Pastor. the Rev. John Ragland, the Rev. LaNoah Ealy, Bishop Joseph Twyman and the Rev. Bobby J. Welch officiating. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery, Talladega. Mrs. Duncan will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Duncan died Oct. 6, 2008 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. She was educated in the Etowah County School System, member of Morning Star Baptist Church and former employee of LDC Corporation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Duncan Sr.; father, Charlie Hester; mother, Bertha Mae Hester; sisters, Charlie Ealy and Ora Simmons; brother, James Hester; and grandparents, Sam and Bertha Hester and J.B. Garrett. Survivors are daughters, Priscilla Duncan, Alicia Duncan and Benita Duncan all of Talladega; son, Albert Duncan Jr. of Cleveland, Tenn.; sisters, Patty (Robert) Curry, Bertha (William) Chatman, Callie Hester, Addie Hester all of Talladega, Marchelle (William) Duncan of Cleveland, Tenn., and Mary J. (Carl) Payne of Canton, Ga.; brothers, Shenick Hester, Levi Wilson and Timothy Hester all of Talladega; grandmother, Ressie (Hollis) Cunningham of Talladega; and six grandchildren. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

LASHICA CHELMESE GARRETT

ALPINE — Funeral services for Lashica Chelmese Garrett, 31, will be Saturday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at Kingston Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Bernard Lawson officiating. Burial will be in Kingston Baptist Church Cemetery, Alpine. Ms. Garrett will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service. Ms. Garrett died Oct. 5, 2008 at St. Vincent's St. Clair Hospital. She earned her bachelor's degree in 2007 and master's degree in 2008 from Faulkner University. She was a site manager for Orion Technology, 1997 graduate of Winterboro High School where she was a member of the band, Sr. Beta Club and FBLA; the National Guard and Kingston Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was preceded in death by grandmother, Lula Garrett; and grandfather, Willie Ledford. Survivors are a daughter, Amber Garrett of Alpine; husband, Joseph Dowdell of Alabaster; stepdaughter, Jatasha Holston of Opelika; father, Emmett Garrett of Alpine; mother, Willie Jean (Ledford) Garrett of Alpine; sister, Kelia Garrett of Alpine; brothers, Delron (Pamela) Garrett of Alpine and Emmett P. (Pearlita) Garrett of Dothan; grandfather, Obie Garrett Sr. of Alpine; grandmother, Eva Ledford of Alpine. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.

JOHN M. HAYNES

OXFORD — Funeral services for John M. Haynes, age 79, of Oxford, will be on Friday, Oct. 10, 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Oxford with the Rev. Tommy Reaves and the Rev. Curtis Collett officiating. The Body will lie in state one hour before service time. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Haynes died on Wednesday at his residence. He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife of 56 years, Betty Smith Haynes; daughter, Debbie Wesson and her husband Doug White Sr.; son Phillip Haynes and his wife Becky; sisters, Audrey Henson and Dorothy Walker; brothers, Milton Haynes and his wife Mary and Bobby Ray Haynes and his wife Johnette; grandchildren, Chad Wesson, Casey Haynes and Doug White Jr.

Pallbearers will be Frank Bannister, Ralph Carter, Boyd Lakey, Jimmy Haynes, Billy Wright and Doug White Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Willis Johnson, Mark Darby, Ray Camp and Gary Beckman. Mr. Haynes was a resident of Talladega County most of his life. He was retired from Anniston Foundry and the Talladega County Road Department. He was a life long Poultry farmer and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by his parents Sally and Wesley Haynes; brother, Joseph W Haynes; sisters, Avaline Boyd and Mildred Mitchell. The family would like to express their thanks to a special caregiver, Ruth Garrett, Wiregrass Hospice, Midtown Home Health Care and to their friends and neighbors during the illness of Mr. Haynes. TALLADEGA — Mr. Vacher Hearn, 82, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008 at her residence. Sims Funeral Service will announce arrangements.

LOLLIE J. McFARLAND

ROCKFORD — Memorial service for Lollie J. McFarland, 84, will be Friday, Oct. 10, at 3 p.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Varner and the Rev. Bill Morris officiating. Interment will be in Crittenden Memorial Park, West Memphis, AR. Ms. McFarland died Oct. 8, 2008 at her residence. She lived with her niece and nephew, Pat and Lee Armbrester. She was very active in West Coosa Senior Citizens Center and was a member of Eagles Nest Life Center. Survivors are brothers, Orris Varner of Mt. Moriah and Bedford Varner of Lambertville, MI; grandsons, Jereme McFarland and Jamie McFarland; and three great grandchildren. Memorial messages may be sent to the family at www.radneysmith.com. IRENE NABORS

TALLADEGA — A celebration of Life for Mrs. Irene Nabors, 95, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Teddy Crumb officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Nabors passed away Oct. 8, 2008 at Talladega Healthcare Center. She is preceded in death by her husband, R.A. (Jack) Nabors; sisters, Moody Hart, Imogene Headrick; and a brother, Roy Hubbard. Mrs. Nabors was born Nov. 3, 1912, in Talladega County, the daughter of John Earl and Eula Waters Hubbard. During the Great Depression, she joined a group of mothers in organizing the first lunchroom at Northside School, appealing to area grocers for donations in order to prepare free lunches for the students there. She began working as a florist in the late 1940's, opening Nabors Flower Shop in 1961. After her retirement, Mrs. Nabors volunteered for numerous committees at Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a member for more than 60 years. She was a charter member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Mrs. Nabors served on the Talladega Oak Hill Cemetery Board as chairperson for some 17 years. She is survived by her son, Robert Earl (Bunky) Nabors and his wife Nina; granddaughter, Sharon Killough and her husband Rex of Talladega; great-granddaughter, Quinn Killough of Raleigh, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Joe Wayne Ingram, Hubert Hubbard, Donald Hubbard, William Josey, Bill Morrow, Jerry Griffin, Hugh Hindmon, Roy Kent and Jimmy Nabors. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

CHICAGO, Ill. —Funeral services for Edward L. Spell was Oct. 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Love Abide Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago. Leak and Sons Funeral Chapels directed.

MORTIMER JEFFERSON (JEF) THURMAN SR.

JACKSON'S GAP — A graveside service for Mortimer Jefferson (Jef) Thurman Sr., age 70 of Jackson's Gap, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, in Tallapoosa County Memory Gardens with Chaplin James M. Thurman officiating. Mr. Thurman was born on Nov. 15, 1937 and passed away at his residence on Oct. 8, 2008. The visitation will be at from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the chapel of Alabama Funeral Homes in Dadeville. Mr. Thurman served as Dadeville High School Band Director for 8 years, a Juvenile Officer for Tallapoosa County, and a Warden for 29 years for the Alabama Dept. of Corrections. He also served as Choir Director for the First United Methodist Church of Dadeville. Jef was well loved, well respected, and well known. He loved laughter and life. Thanks to all of our friends for sharing his life. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Templeton Thurman of 45 years; one son, Mortimer J. Thurman Jr. and wife Dee; two daughters, Marti Thurman, Sandi McCool and husband Alan; one brother, James M. Thurman and wife Edith; two grandsons, M.J. Thurman III and J.T. Thurman; one granddaughter, Melyssa Thurman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Alma Thurman.
