SCOTTSBORO — Funeral services for William E. Lee, 73, formerly of Childersburg, will be at on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rudder's Funeral Home Chapel in Scottsboro. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Mr. Lee passed on Oct. 26, 2008 at his residence. He is survived by three daughters, Sonya Lee of Talladega, Tessa Zeiglar of Gadsden and Zetar Lee of North Carolina; five sons, Edward Lee of Sylacauga, Jerome Lee and Ben Lee both of Talladega, Arthur E. Lee of North Carolina and Douglas Lee of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three sisters, Mary May of Childersburg, Christine Cowlin of Cleveland, Ohio and Barbara J. Robinson of Chesapeake, Va.; five brothers, Jerome Lee of Sylacauga, Daniel Lee of Ohio, Jimmy Lee and Geter Lee both of Cleveland, Ohio, and Ricky Lee of Florida; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

PELL CITY — Services for The Rev. Dr. Carl J. Nobles Jr., 80, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at First Missionary Baptist Church South in Pell City with Pastor Elliot T. Ivey officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Anniston Funeral services in charge (www.annistonfuneralservice.net). The body will be at funeral home from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. today and the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church South in Pell City. The Rev. Nobles died on Oct. 25, 2008 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mrs. Lillie Nobles; four children, Jacqualine (James) Russell, Karl (Theresa) Nobles all of Pell City, Angela (Roscoe) Frazier of Carlsbad, Calif., and Paula (Torail) Jackson of Pell City; eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren; two special nieces; one cousin and a family friend who were like daughters, Wanda (Michael) Elston, of Munford, Katrina (Lawrence) Sayles, of Arlington, Texas, Carol (Bobby) Gover and friend Connie Murphy of Birmingham; four sisters, Jonie Robinson of Bronz, N.Y., Emma Groce of Cleveland, Ohio, Dellar Lewis, and Enetta Cosper both of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Jackie Robinson of Pell City and Henry (Essie) McCoy of Detroit, Mich.; special cousin, Ruby Fomby of Pell City; mother-in-law, Mrs. Annie L. Hanna of Hobson City; and one brother-in-law, L.T. (Linda) Hanna of Macon, Ga.; six sisters-in-law, and a host of relatives, dear friends, and other ministers in the ministry. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of First Missionary Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be nephews and Flower Bearers, Women of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Dr. Carl J. Nobles Jr. was a Pell City native and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where he accepted his call into the ministry under the leadership of the Rev. R.E. Avery. He graduated from St. Clair County Training School. Afterward, he served in the US. Army during the Korean War where he served as Chaplin. During his tour in London, England he attended Oxford University. After an honorable discharge he began his singing career with the Fairfield Four, Memphis, Tenn.; and the Sterling Jubilee of Fairfield. He was instrumental in organizing the Starlights of Pell City. He attended Estonian Theological Seminary where he received his Bachelor of Divinity, Theology and his Doctorate in Divinity. He was a pastor, civil rights leader, humanitarian and historian. He pastored several churches, Bloominglight Baptist Church, Pell City, Sweet Rock Baptist Church Munford, Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Hobson City, Marshill Baptist Church, Anniston, Mt. Liberty Baptist Church, Central City, Emmanuel Baptist Church and Carlton Hill Baptist Church, Brierfield, Ala. He also served as Chaplin at Pell City Funeral Home. During his pastorage, he labored the longest at Oak Ridge Baptist Church of Hobson City where his beloved son-in-law, Pastor Torail Jackson is now pastor. He served as former Moderator of the Snow Creek District and Northeast District State Convention, President of the local SCLC and NAACP. During the civil rights movement, he organized and hosted the housing and food for many people journeying through for the "The Poor Peopleís March" in Washington. He worked hard for black students rights to be cheerleaders, majorettes and homecoming court participates at the local high school. He lead several rallies and demonstrations protesting against racism and poverty in his community. He was a strong civil rights advocate. The family will accept flowers.
VIRGINIA "GINNY" ROUSH
SYLACAUGA — A memorial service will be at to celebrate the life of Ginny Roush, 86, at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Sylacauga. Ginny died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 26, 2008 at her home at Spring Terrace Assisted Living Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents, Ralph and Bessie McGriff; and her brother, Walto. She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Uhlenhopp (Chris) and Kathryn Yvonne Richardson (Bud); her son, David (Susan); her grandchildren, Brian Roush (Tana) and Kathryn Welchans; and five beloved great grandchildren. Ginny was born in Newton, Iowa, but spent most of her life in Tucson, Arizona, where she loved the beauty of the southwest desert. She moved to Sylacauga some three years ago to be closer to the family she loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, which embraced and loved Ginny in her final years. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.
WILLIAM L. "BILL" WARD
SYLACAUGA — Memorial service for William L. "Bill" Ward, 61, will be Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at Papertown Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Frost officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Ward died Oct. 30, 2008 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, Willard E. Ward; and his brother, Leon Ward. Survivors are his wife, Lanetia Ward of Sylacauga; sons, Christopher Ward of Dadeville, James Ward of Tallassee, William Ward Jr. of Sylacauga and Jeremy Ward of Sylacauga; daughter, Pamela Pilkington of Sylacauga; mother, Lorene C.
