HENERY F. BENEFIELD II

LINCOLN — Funeral services for Mr. Henery F. Benefield II, age 58, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Hardman officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Mr. Benefield passed away Nov. 19, 2008 at Trinity BMC in Birmingham. Survivors are two daughters, Deborah Whitten (Wade) of Pell City, Rebecca Rollins (Dennis) of Georgia; three sons, Henry Benefield III of Talladega, Cody Benefield of Pell City, Jeff Haynes (Cyndi) of Woodland; three sisters, Sandra Simpson (Jesse) of Talladega, Tina Mueller (Bob) of Joliett, Ill., Nancy Gravitt (Ron) of Joliett, Ill.; one brother, Bill Meadows (Bev) of New Lenox, Ill.; his step mother, Margaret Benefield of Joliet, Ill.; there are 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Benefield is preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. Benefield and Jessie Roundtree; a brother, Albert Benefield; grandparents, Bill and Viola Benefield and Rose and Frank Brown. Active pallbearers are Keith Light, Phillip Suvlett, Kevin Simpson, Jeremy Benefield, Cecil Garrison and Roger Gunter. Mr. Benefield was a native of Chicago, Ill., but had lived most of his life in Talladega County. He was retired from Crown Textile with 20 years service and was a member of the Body and Grace Outreach Church in Pell City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-8 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

MILDRED I. (McGILL) COTNEY

SYLACAUGA — Funeral services for Mildred I. (McGill) Cotney, age 81, were Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Bass Funeral Home. the Rev. Charles Kornegay officiated. Burial followed in the Hillview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were member of Trinity Baptist Church of Childersburg. Ms. Cotney passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 at her daughter's residence in Sylacauga from a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born in Tallapoosa County on July 2, 1927 to J.B. McGill and Clessie Solley. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Childersburg. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Hardy and husband Jerry and Gail Castleberry all of Sylacauga; four grandsons and 10 great grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Key and husband Billie of Fort Myers, FL and Juanita Harry and husband John of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, James McGill and wife Voncile of Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rado Cotney; and her parents, Jim and Clessie McGill. ANNIE LAURA KIDD

TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Laura Kidd, 73, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Tinney Street Church of Christ with Bro. Oscar Jones officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour before the service. She died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 at BMC Princeton. Survivors are husband, Bro. John Kidd; four sons, Rufus (Florine) Barclay, Willie Joe Kidd, Timothy (Queenie) Kidd all of Talladega, Derek (Twila) Kidd of Birmingham; four daughters, Kimberly (Antionne) Chatman, Krystle Kidd of Talladega, Martha Kidd, Andrea Kidd of Birmingham; one brother, Lindsay (Maeline) Barclay of Talladega; one sister, Emma Gaston of Talladega; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-7 p.m. at Sims Funeral Service Chapel. Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

NETTIE R. OLIVER

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Nettie R. Oliver, 63, will be Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Oliver died Nov. 20, 2008 at Brookwood Medical Center, Birmingham. Gone to be with the Lord this morning, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She influenced many lives as a girl scout leader, neighborhood cookie chair, band booster officer and PTA president at B.B. Comer. Mrs. Oliver kept her family loved and warm with gifts of unique and handmade quilts. Everyone who knew her was affected by her warmth and caring. She was a much loved member of Oldfield Baptist Church and as her health permitted, a loyal member of the women's Sunday School class. Survivors are her husband, Arthur R. Oliver of 40 years of Sylacauga; daughter, Nancy and husband Hoyet Lamberth of Sylacauga; son, Jimmy and wife Lisa Chandler of Sylacauga; daughter, Cindy and husband Ogle of Falkville; daughter, Belinda Martin of Sylacauga; daughter, Samantha and husband Larry McDermott of Dayton, Tenn.; grandsons, Josh Lamberth, David Lamberth, Ben Lamberth, James Landrum all of Sylacauga, Jonas McDermott and Noah McDermott both of Dayton, Tenn.; granddaughters, Victoria Lamberth of Sylacauga, Amanda Landrum of Crosby, Texas, Tiffany and husband Bobby Kowal of Moulton, Jessica and husband Joe Kennel of Ft. Carson, CO, Tabitha Ogle of Hartselle, Erin Martin of Sylacauga, Emilee Martin of Sylacauga; great granddaughters, Alyssa Minyard and Ally Kowal both of Moulton; great grandson, Chandler Kowel of Moulton. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

MAXINE GAITHER SHAW

TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Maxine Gaither Shaw, age 67, will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Clyde Pettus officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Shaw passed away Nov. 19, 2008 at her home. Survivors are one son, Curtis Osborn Jr. and his wife Gail of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Glen Gaither and his wife Janice R. of Talladega, Bryan Gaither and his wife Janice M. of Talladega; her parents, Louis and Katie Gaither of Talladega; two grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and Jordin Jarvis both of Birmingham. Mrs. Shaw was a native of Talladega where she had lived for most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6-9 p.m. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

VERA THORNTON

SYLACAUGA — Vera Thornton, 94, died Nov. 20, 2008 at Sylacauga Health Care. Radney-Smith Funeral Home will announce arrangements.

ODESSA BROWN TOYER

DETROIT, MI — Funeral services for Odessa Brown Toyer, 86, will be Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church with Elder James Brinkley Sr., Elder James Brinkley Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Horace Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Talladega. Mrs. Toyer will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to service. Mrs. Toyer died Nov. 15, 2008 at her residence. She was educated in the Perry County Public School System, a homemaker, and a faithful and active member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by father, Walter Brown; mother, Susie Brown; two brothers, Leon and Robert Brown; three sisters, Susie Brown, Maggie Hubbard and Eunice Mahan; and one grandson, Grayling Mahan. Survivors are sons, Leon Mahan of Detroit, MI, Willie James (Sadie) Mahan of Talladega, Walter (Dean) Toyer of Munford and Michael Toyer of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Clara (Lester) Conwell of Talladega, Peggy (George) Edwards of Detroit, MI, Linda Christian of Anniston and Sheryl (Elvert) Marsh of Decatur; 25 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Visitation will be Nov. 21, from 6-7 p.m. at Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the services.
