Sessions, Figures should be nominees for U.S. Senate races
05-28-2008
We may not always agree with U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, and his stand on a variety of issues, but we do know that his experience counts in representing the state in the nation’s capitol. He has served as a U.S. senator since 1997, and his contributions to the state and on the national scene have been many. He is gaining attention for his stand on illegal immigration, and we think he is right to address a growing crisis in this country with concrete measures. It is for those reasons that we support Sessions on the Republican ticket for U.S. Senate. On the Democratic side, the choice is equally clear. State Sen. Vivian Figures, also of Mobile, knows the issues facing Alabama. She has grappled with them for years in Montgomery and now wants to take her expertise and experience to Washington D.C. She knows the priorities for everyday folks in Alabama, and she is running on a ticket for change. She rightly points to a faltering economy, a budget deficit and the war in Iraq as issues that need a new course. And she’s ready to chart it as the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. On June 3, Figures should be the nominee.
