Tip of the hat: Surles fishing tournament

08-27-2008

Even the remnants of Tropical Storm Fay could not keep people from helping the family of Pell City Police Officer Greg Surles.

Surles died from injuries sustained in a car accident while serving the people of Pell City.

More than 60 boaters braved the continual rain Saturday to take part in a fishing tournament held in the fallen officer’s memory.

The event raised in excess of $3,600, which will be given to Robin Surles.

The success of the fishing tournament is all the more poignant because Surles loved the outdoors and to hunt and fish.

We applaud everyone who helped organize and run the event and all the people who came out despite the weather to make the tournament such a great success.
