Gov. Bob Riley extended accolades Wednesday to Regan Gaskin, a 13-year-old student from Zora Ellis Junior High School in Talladega. And Gaskin is well deserving of the praise. The governor spoke at the deployment ceremony in Ashland for the 128th Medical Company of the Alabama Army National Guard, a fitting time to honor the local teen who is working to help deployed soldiers have better contact with their families.
Gaskin, with help from her Mom and support from her school and the Red Cross, is heading up a program to allow soldiers to record voice messages in stuffed bears to send to their children and spouses.
Our soldiers deserve every bit of support they can get, and we think Gaskin has hit on a great idea to do just that.
We join in the governor in congratulating this local teen, and encourage the community here to support her project.
