TALLADEGA — The execution of a search warrant by the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force resulted in the arrest of 10 people on felony drug charges, according to Commander Jason Murray.

The initial search warrant was executed on 511 19th Street in Talladega, with the assistance of the Talladega Police Department. Billy Joe “Bird” Pointer, Frank Edward “Jab” Pointer, 39 and Frank Edward Gooden, 18. Each was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of marijuana in the first degree.

Billy Joe Pointer’s bond was set at $250,000, according to Murray. He was also out on bond for distribution of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest, and Murray said he would be requesting the court to revoke it.

The bonds for Gooden and Frank Pointer were set at $25,000 each.

Once the house had been secured, Murray said a confidential informant set up shop selling crack.

Those arrested in phase two of the operation included Pamela Renee Lee, 45, of Scott Street; Willie Frank Smith, 57, of McMillian Street; Ruth Bush, 61, of Jackson Trace Circle; Theodore Cook, 41, of Stephen J. White Memorial Blvd.; Timothy Hunley, 39, of Grave Street; A.B. President, 43 of Ola Ave. and Kenneth Lawson, 54 of Turner’s Mill Road. All were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Talladega Police made at least one additional arrest on misdemeanor charges.

Bonds for all of the defendants arrested in phase two were set at $2,500 each.

Unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana in the first degree are both Class C felonies in Alabama, punishable upon conviction by one year and one day to 10 years in prison.

Distribution of a controlled substance is a Class B felony, punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
