Pell City School Board Chairwoman Tammie Williams said the Board will interview all four superintendent candidates in a public forum.
“We haven’t even notified them (the candidates) yet,” Williams said.
She said the board would notify possible job candidates of the public interviews once a time and place is determined for the interviews.
Williams said the interviews could take place at the Pell City Center, so there is plenty of room for the public to attend.
Williams said she should work out all the details for the superintendent applicant interviews by next week. She said she hopes the interviews are completed before the next regularly scheduled board meeting, which will be March 19.
Those who have applied for the job include current Assistant Superintendent Michael Barber, Gayle Gober, who is currently the principal for Hueytown High School in Birmingham, Allen Martin, who is an assistant superintendent for the Baldwin County Board of Education in Milledgeville, Ga., and James Hethcox, who is the founder and senior consultant for Educare Inc., in Sylacauga.
The School Board advertised the job for 30 days after Superintendent Bobby Hathcock announced his retirement in January. Candidates had until Feb. 21 to apply for the job.
Hathcock will officially retire July 1.
Hathcock said he hoped the Board would hire his replacement as soon as possible, so there would be an adequate transition period for the new superintendent.
