Though it was only last year that the Alabama Scenic River Trail was designated as a National Recreation Trail, it is already drawing attention – and hopefully visitors — to the area.
The ASRT Board of Directors met in Pell City earlier this week to discuss the trail, part of which runs along the Coosa River through St. Clair and Talladega counties.
During the meeting, members from several area Rotary clubs expressed an interest in holding paddling trips down the river to raise funds for their campaign to eradicate polio and help the ASRT Association.
That idea is a win-win proposition for everyone involved — the campaign to end this deadly disease is helping people around the world and the fundraising effort will promote the Scenic River Trail and hopefully bring more visitors to the area.
We are glad to see the clubs organizing the fundraisers and equally glad to see the positive response from local government officials and the ASRT board.
