Knollwood Presbyterian Church and Marble City Baptist Church are hosting “Wow-tastic” Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Noble Park on July 11, 18 and 25.
Kindergarten through sixth-grade children are invited to enjoy free hot dogs, music, games, face painting and Bible stories.
Marble City Baptist Pastor Michael Trull said the event was created as an alternative to the traditional Vacation Bible School.
“We noticed that by the time children came to Bible school, they had already heard the same stories two or three times at other Bible schools, because a lot of churches use the same theme,” Trull said. “So we wanted to do something different and reach outside the church.”
He said having it at the park was a natural choice, because children and parents are likely to be there already.
“By having it in a public place, we hope we can reach some people who may not have come to an event at a church, because they felt uncomfortable for one reason or another,” Trull said.
The churches started “Wow-tastic” Wednesdays last year, and Trull said they have made some improvements this time around.
“For the first year, I would say last year was pretty successful,” he said. “We’ve tried to get the word out better this year through sending out flyers and knocking on doors, so there’s no telling what’s going to happen.”
Children who come to the event will register, have a meal and then break into groups and travel to different stations for crafts and games. They will also hear three different Bible stories each Wednesday. There will be an area for parents and a prayer tent as well.
Although Marble City Baptist and Knollwood Presbyterian have some differences in beliefs, Trull said the goal of the “Wow-tastic” events is the same for both.
“The intended purpose is to build God’s Kingdom,” Trull said. “We may be of different denominations, but we can agree on a lot of things, and one of those things is reaching people for Jesus.”
