Recreation is the heart of the quality of life of any community. And city officials in Talladega have the right idea in pledging more than $1 million to park improvements.

The funding comes from a 2008 bond issue, and it has taken several months to compile the priorities and costs. But now, the city is ready for action.

Renovations to the Spring Street Recreation Center, Bemiston Recreation Center, Brecon Center, resurfacing tennis and basketball courts at Amanda Bingham Park, resurfacing tennis courts at Jemison Park and a host of other improvements and renovations around the city are targeted.

When the work is completed, it will mean a much better park system for the city. And we commend the council for placing it on its priority list.

It certainly will better serve the citizens of Talladega.
