The Daily Home sports staff has a couple of new ways to cover all your favorite teams this year.

We’ve recently started posting blogs on the newspaper’s web site, www.dailyhome.com, and we now have a facebook page, which is a work in progress. If you haven’t checked out our web site in a while, you’ll find we’ve made a lot of changes and hope you enjoy the new look and content of the site. One of the things you’ll find different on the sports pages is the addition of photos with many of our game stories. Because of the space limitation in the paper, we often don’t get to publish many of the photos our photographers take at each game. Fans of sports teams in East Central Alabama will now be able to see more photos from all of the games we cover online.

The facebook page is relatively new and we’re still working on adding new features to the page, but check the page often as we will soon be adding discussion topics. We hope the page will enable us to interact with our readers and generate new readers at the same time. If you have any comments or suggestions for the facebook page or the web site you can email them to our sports staff.

Now, moving on to relevant sports news from the past week and a look at some of the games coming up this week.

SPEED, SPEED, SPEED: The Silent Warriors of Alabama School for the Deaf have a trio of running backs who are going to deal defenses a fit all season long. Don’t believe me? Ask Jacksonville Christian or Coffeeville. And JCA didn’t even see one of the best runners on the team.

But Josh Snow made his presence known on Friday night when he rushed for 230 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries in ASD’s 44-20 win over Coffeeville.

SPEAKING OF SPEED: The Winterboro Bulldogs have a few speedy backs and they showcased that speed Friday night. Unfortunately most of the yards gained were negated by penalties. Josh Taylor had runs of 77, 23 and 55 yards called back on penalties. Had they counted the sophomore would have finished with 228 yards rushing. Instead, he had 73 yards.

The Bulldogs travel to face Talladega County Central on Friday - a game that could turn ugly early if Winterboro has the same number of penalties and turnovers as they did last week.

IN THE THICK OF REGION ACTION: The teams in East Central Alabama are already competing in games that will have a big impact on the regions and which teams will make the playoffs. Victory Christian took a huge stride in that way Friday night, defeating the Ragland Purple Devils for the first time in school history. Two 5A teams will meet on Friday in Sylacauga and with the Tigers of Talladega and the Aggies of Sylacauga playing in a seven-team region; neither team can afford to lose the game.

FOOTNOTES: East Central Alabama has five teams (ASD, TC Central, Victory Christian, Lincoln, and Sylacauga) still undefeated after two weeks of high school football. We also have seven teams (Fayetteville, Ragland, B.B. Comer, Central-Coosa, Munford, Talladega and Pell City) still looking for the first win of 2009. Every other team is 1-1 with a full slate of region games happening this week. Comer gets the early start this week, hosting Montgomery Academy on Thursday. TC Central, ASD, Fayetteville, Victory Christian, Childersburg, Sylacauga and Pell City are all at home this week, so there’s plenty of football being played in a town near you on Friday.

It would be a lot of help, if you would at least post the scores from Friday night. I have not seen them on your website yet.
