Childersburg’s City Council decided on Interim Police Chief Doug Wesson as the person they want to head up the department as police chief.

A lifelong Childersburg resident, Wesson was the first Childersburg officer to attend the police academy. That was 40 years ago, and in addition to his work with the Childersburg Police Department he has worked with the Talladega County Sheriff’s Department and worked for 30 years at Kimberly Clark.

During interviews for the position, the questions from council members indicated desires to have a police chief who had good relationships with local residents, and to do something about the number of burglaries that have plagued the community in recent years.

Wesson is to be sworn in at next Tuesday’s council meeting, with a reception to follow.

We congratulate him on his selection and wish him all the best in his service to Childersburg
