The Wolves (21-18) played a schedule filled with some of the top teams from Alabama and Georgia. They fell in the semifinals to Maplesville.
So it should come as no surprise the Wolves are also well represented on the 1A-3A All-Talladega County Baseball Team.
Fayetteville had four players make the 2012 All–Talladega County 1-3A Baseball team including Coach of the Year Morris Phillips as well as The Daily Home Player of the Year Zach McGrady.
“It is a great honor to have four guys on the All-County team,“ Fayetteville head coach Morris Phillips said. “ I am very proud of those guys and I think they are very deserving of being on there. I am very proud of McGrady for being selected The Daily Home Player of the Year. Just speaks to the season that he had for us especially on the mound. I am just proud for all of these guys, and I am really blessed to be able to coach and be around them.”
McGrady had a stellar season for the Wolves in 2012. The junior was dominant on the mound. McGrady pitched 65.2 innings, holding opposing teams to a batting average of .135 and an on-base percentage of .268.
He allowed 14 runs, eight of which were earned and he had an ERA of 0.85 on the season. The ASWA All-State first team member was second in Class 1A in strikeouts with 89 according to MaxPreps.
McGrady also improved at the plate. This season, he was fourth on the team with a batting average of .316. McGrady recorded 37 hits, which included eight doubles.
He also drove in 20 runs for the Wolves.
Justin Ricks had another solid season for the Wolves. Ricks led the team with a .446 batting average. He recorded 44 hits, nine doubles, five triples and two homers on the season.
According to Maxpreps.com, Ricks led Class 1A with 44 RBIs.
The 6-foot-7 senior also got it done on the mound. Ricks held opposing batters to a batting average of 1.79 and allowed 28 runs, 21 of them were earned.
Center fielder Jared Williams also had a stellar season. As a senior, he recorded a batting average of .405. He recorded 40 runs and 47 hits.
Dalton Vick earned a spot on the All- County team. Vick had a 5-3 record on the season. He held opposing batters to a batting average of .221.
Phillips credited his players and coaches for helping him earn the Class 1-3A Coach of the Year honor for the third straight season.
“All the glory goes to God,” Phillips said. “Through him all things are possible. Being selected as Coach of the Year is just a reflection of the year we had. It comes back to my guys that work hard and practice hard. Our assistant coaches put in just as much time and hard work. They are just as much as deserving of this award as I am. It is just a whole team thing. We are very blessed to have good athletics and the good coaching staff like the one we have at Fayetteville.”
The B.B. Comer Tigers also had a solid season, which ended in a first-round loss in the playoffs.
The Tigers had five players to earn spots on the 2012 All-County team: Caleb Duffee, Zach Osbourn, Tyler Holmes, Dylan McClure and Cory Harris.
Holmes went 3-1 in seven starts and hit .320. Osbourn hit .290 and played almost every position. Duffee hit .340. McClure hit .379. Harris hit .316 and only made four errors in 102 chances at first base.
For the second straight season, the Winteboro Bulldogs lost to Wadley with a playoff berth on the line on the final day of the season.
Josh Quinn led the way for Winterboro on the mound.
The senior had an ERA of 1.69; he allowed 16 runs, 10 of them earned in 41.1 innings of action.
He recorded 82 strikeouts on the season. Quinn had some of his best games in area play.
He recorded 15 and 13 strikeouts against Wadley.
He also had a 15-strikeout game against TC Central.
Quinn also had a solid season at the plate. He recorded a batting average of .364, and he recorded 11 RBIs on 12 hits.
Andrew Pitts earned All-County honors. Pitts had a batting average of .395. He scored 11 runs and drove in five runs for the Bulldogs.
Casey Goins had a solid season for the Bulldogs. The freshman recorded 19 strikeouts in 14 innings of action.
At the plate, Goins had a. 333 batting average and he drove in 12 runs. Four of the 12 runs he drove in this season came in a game against TC Central.
Taylor Garrett led the Bulldogs offensively. He had a batting average of .455, an on-base percentage of .486 and a slugging percentage of .576. The junior drove in 10 RBIs and scored 10 runs for Winterboro. Garrett had a standout game against Wadley to start the season. He recorded four of his 10 runs in that game.
The Fighting Tigers of TC Central had three players to make the 2012 All-County team: Corey Morris, Corey White and Elisha Bowen.
The coaches chose players selected for the 2012 All-Talladega County Baseball team.
