The chamber Board of Directors hired Erica Grieve, 32, of Pell City as executive director after former executive director Lynn Batemon retired last month.
“I’m trying to get out and be at events to represent the chamber,” Grieve said. “I’m out meeting people and letting them know I’m here to help.”
Grieve said she wants to get business owners involved and promote the chamber.
“I already have great people ready to help,” she said.
Grieve said she started her job at a busy time of the year.
“Of course we have the Block Party coming up,” she said. “We have a booth at LakeFest next week.”
Grieve is originally from Weaver.
“We just moved from Jacksonville,” she said. “We lived in Jacksonville for six years.”
Grieve said her family has lived in Pell City for the past two years.
Her husband, Erik, is a transportation analyst at Honda Manufacturing of Alabama in Lincoln. The couple have one daughter, Sadie, who is 3.
Grieve is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, where she earned a degree in human science.
Her first job out of college is where she gained experience in public relations.
“My first job out of college was at the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts in Gadsden,” she said.
Grieve said she worked with the cultural arts center’s children’s program. She was also involved with the fundraising efforts at the center.
“I enjoyed marketing and PR,” she said.
Grieve said she enjoys helping others improve their quality of life.
She worked as a drug treatment counselor at the Calhoun Treatment Center in Oxford and the past year with the St. Clair County Department of Human Resources.
Grieve said she liked her jobs in social work because she enjoyed helping others, but she did not like the negative aspects of the job.
She said her new chamber job is different.
“It’s nice to have a job where you are surrounded by good things,” she said.
Grieve said she hopes to make the Pell City Chamber one of the best around.
“I want to let people know what Pell City has to offer,” she said.
