TALLADEGA – After several years of being dormant, the Senior Grove II dormitory at Talladega College will soon reopen thanks to the help of employees from Honda Manufacturing of Alabama.

Volunteers from Honda are scheduled to be on campus at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 18, to assist in the renovation of the dorm. Talladega College President Dr. Billy C. Hawkins is excited about the partnership between the college and Honda.

“It’s an honor to know that the employees at Honda truly support this institution,” Hawkins said. “We are excited about the work underway to restore Senior Grove II which will be a vital residential area here on campus.”

The Honda team, along with Talladega College employees, will begin the renovation with a clean-up of the dorm. In addition to removing debris, both groups will also paint the interior, make structural repairs and improve the landscaping.

This is the second year HMA has volunteered its time at Talladega College. Prior to the opening of school in August 2008, a large group of volunteers worked with the faculty and staff at Talladega College to renovate two other dorms – Senior Grove I and III.

“Like Senior Grove II, one and three had also been off-line for more than five years,” Hawkins said. “Now with the help of the Honda volunteers, we can continue to provide quality housing for increasing student enrollment.”
