“I need a ring,” Honeycutt said. “I have been playing sports forever and I still haven’t got a ring. That is my ultimate goal, so that is what I want to do this year. I expect to achieve my goals.”
Playing less than 20 minutes away from home played a huge role in Honeycutt’s decision to come to TC.
“I am just happy to be close to home,” Honeycutt said. “Thank God that coach gave me the opportunity to come try out. I was looking for a place to go and I think this is going to be a good fit for me. I can live at home and come up here and play. Hopefully I can bring my talents to the table for this school.”
Honeycutt is the last player the Tornadoes are going to sign in this year’s recruiting class. TC head coach Will Ramos is excited about having a talented, experienced player on his roster.
“We are very happy that we have him in our Talladega College baseball program,” TC head coach Will Ramos said. “He is a guy that has experience. He played in junior college at Bevill State. We have recruited some people from there. Jesse Sharbutt came from there. We made some phone calls and some people talked about him and Jesse went over there to see him. He came and did a try out and we were very impressed with what he had. We are happy about the things that he is going to bring to Talladega College.”
As of right now Ramos believes Honeycutt will be playing on the left side of the diamond and batting at the top of the lineup.
“He has very solid fundamentals on defense and he has a very good arm,” Ramos said. “When he came here for tryouts he was a little sick, so we couldn’t see what he was fully capable to do. I kind of know a little bit about recruiting and based on my years here I know what we need. I think he is going to do the job and he is going to do it very well. He is going to leadoff or the two whole in the lineup and he maybe playing third base or shortstop. We also expect for him to be a leader on and off the baseball field.”
Ramos said he’s been trying for a while to recruit a Pell City product.
“I think Pell City is one of the best baseball programs in the state,” he said. “I have been here three years and I have been trying to recruit someone from there. (Honeycutt) is the first one and I think he is a good fit. He is the first one and he wont be the last one.”
After graduating in 2008 from Pell City, Honeycutt signed with Henderson State in Arkansas to play football. He said that Henderson State was not a good fit for him. He transferred to Bevill State and played baseball.
The rising junior has high hopes entering his first season at TC.
“Maybe this year I can bat around .350 and try not to kick too many baseballs around,” Honeycutt said.
