MONTGOMERY- The Fayetteville Lady Wolves historic season came to an end in the AHSAA Class 1A State Softball Tournament at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

The Lady Wolves fell to Athens Bible 3-2 in the first game and with their season on the line, they fell to Ragland 20-0.

After being eliminated from the tournament, Fayetteville head coach Chris Sherbert promised his players that he and coaches are going to improve.

“The bottom line is that we got our rear end kicked,” Sherbert said. “Let’s face it; Ragland is a better team than we are.

“I don’t believe they are not 20-0 better than us. Some times it takes a good old-fashion tale whipping kicking to get your scenes right and get focused. They hit the ball and when it was plays to be made we didn’t make them. We didn’t hit the ball and it is just one of those things. Like I told the girls, I said look you can’t let one ball game take away what you have accomplished. They will keep working hard and I challenged them to become better players and better teammates. I promised them as coaches we are going to get better. We as coaches want to be able to come up here to compete and play with the big girls. As coaches we have to improve and that means Chris Sherbert, the head coach. I’ve made a challenge to all my assistant coaches that we will start in August on a professional development. We probably won’t wait to August, we will start pretty soon.”

The defending Class 1A champions showed that they were going to be a tough out early.

The Lady Purple Devils scored seven runs in the top of the second inning to take an 8-0 lead.

Emily Church drove in three runs on a double in the second inning.Ragland added four runs in the third inning and seven in the fifth to end the game.

Fayetteville only recorded one hit against Ragland and that came in the first inning.

In the first game errors proved to be costly for the Lady Wolves.

Senior Madolin Parrett only allowed one earn run in seven innings of action.

An error in the second inning gave Athens Bible a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Wolves scored a run in the sixth inning but that is as close as they would get.

Fayetteville is losing three seniors from this year’s team.

Sherbert said they will be missed.
