The health fair is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the City Center (old Lincoln High School gym). It is sponsored by SAFE Family Service Center in Sylacauga, Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters in Talladega County, FIRST Family Service Center in Talladega, ACES-Auburn, Talladega County Extension Office, Coosa Valley Electric Cooperative and the Lincoln Boys and Girls Club.
There are several seminars throughout the day, including Coosa Valley Electric, Birmingham Bargain Mom, ACES-Auburn and Dr. Andy Whiddon with Lincoln Chiropractic and Wellness Center.
“The seminars will offer information on how to save on electric bills, how to begin to coupon, how to set up a budget and Dr. Whiddon will discuss the whole body and its wellness,” said Laura Puttonen, one of the organizers of the health fair.
The health fair will feature screenings, including blood pressure, diabetes, oxygen, weight and height and much more.
There will be testing for HIV and STD’s.
Dr. Barry Collins, with Pell City Internal and Family Medicine, will have a table to talk about men’s health as well as with Advanced Clinical Research.
There will be a children’s area with face painting, finger printing, the Lincoln Fire Department will cover fire safety, there will be free water and popcorn, the Talladega County Extension Office will work with the children on washing hands and teaching about germs, Sorrell Dental will teach children how to properly brush their teeth and hand out toothpaste and toothbrushes and there will hopefully be a visit from Smokey the Bear.
“Also, we are asking everyone, not just youth, to go to the Dizzy Feet Foundation at dizzyfeetfoundation.org and learn one or two dances for National Dance Day and come to the fair at 1 p.m. to perform them,” Puttonen said. “We will be taping that day to send in to Fox and you will have the chance to be on television the following week.”
Puttonen said more than 30 vendors are set to participate in the event.
“We are also collecting nonperishable food items for the Lincoln Food Pantry,” she said. “If you bring a nonperishable food item to the event, you will receive an extra door prize ticket.”
Puttonen said they are giving out school supplies for children in the Lincoln and Stemley school districts.
“They must bring their ID to receive the school supplies,” she said. “And anyone from Pell City can leave a name and number and we will get their information to the person giving out school supplies there.”
