Talladega police allege that Anthery L. Dowdell, 37, ended the life of Carolyn Adams in this house on Swain Street, then chased her daughter and the mother of his children, Toni Adams, onto Avenue H, where she was gunned down as well.

Anthery Leaketh Dowdell, 37, contacted the U.S. Marshal Service and agreed to surrender Tuesday at about 4:30 p.m. at 303 Avenue H. Jones. Dowdell was taken into custody without further incident. As of Tuesday evening, Dowdell was facing two counts of murder.
He will likely have an initial court appearance today, according to Jones.
Police were notified about 5 a.m. Sunday that a male suspect was chasing a woman down Avenue H while shooting at her. Officers responding to the call found a woman’s body in the roadway, dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. The woman was eventually identified as Toni Adams, 32, of 445 Swain St.
When officers went to the residence on Swain Street, they found an open door and a second body, later identified as that of Carolyn Jean Adams, 54, Toni Adams’ mother, who appeared to have been killed by a single gunshot wound to the head.
Jones said Dowdell was or had been Toni Adams’ boyfriend, and was the father of two of her children, ages 13 and 14. Jones said it was not clear if Dowdell was also the father of Toni Adams’ 2-year-old child.
Carolyn Adams was legally blind and worked as a sewing machine operator at Alabama Industries for the Blind. Monday would have been her 31st anniversary in that position.
The U.S. Marshall Service and Alabama State Troopers, who provided a helicopter, assisted Talladega police in the manhunt.
The Adamses are both believed to have been shot with a handgun.
A conviction for murder using a firearm carries a punishment of 20 to 99 years or life in prison.
