Putting local people to work aim of hospital project

The latest news of progress in building a new hospital in St. Clair County is the best of both worlds.

First, choosing construction managers and an architectural firm for the $28 million project is a significant step in the process.

Second, and maybe more important, was the choice for project managers. The Healthcare Authority chose Hoar Construction and Goodgame Company as the construction managers for the new St. Vincent’s St. Clair Hospital, which could boost local employment.

Hoar and Goodgame promised to employ 50 to 75 percent of its workforce for the hospital project from St. Clair County.

Three companies bid on the project, and officials say there was nominal difference among their pricing. While Hoar and Goodgame did not submit the lowest bid, their pledge to put local people to work swayed it in their favor.

We think that is a wise move on this particular project. It means so much to the local community in terms of health care for the future, and ensuring that more local people are working on it gives a boost to the present when employment numbers need it most.

We understand the rationale behind the Healthcare Authority’s decision, and it looks to be a sound one.

True ,the buildingwill promote jobs in th eprocess of building new facility..however the future of healthcare in Pell CIty is still not clear to me..Wil the new facility include out patient care? will in include a surgery facility as does the present hospital?..If the answers are no then there will be a lot of jobs lost in the nursing staff as it stands now..Will ther be an access ramp from I-20 to the facility orwill emergency vehicles hsave to take the scenic route?..
