RAGLAND — The Ragland Purple Devils enjoyed homecoming as they improved to 3-3 on the season defeating the St. Bernard Saints 41-6.
The Purple Devils scored 28 second quarter points to put the game out of reach by halftime.
Ragland scored the first time they had the ball as they drove 60 yards in 8 plays, all on the ground. The key plays in the drive were a 25-yard run by Devin Wilson and a 13-yard run by Nicholas Daniels. The touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Wilson. The PAT by Landon Bice was good to make it 7-0 with 6:28 remaining in the opening stanza. Wilson scored his second touchdown of the game early in the second quarter on another 1-yard run. Bice’s PAT was good to make it 14-0. Following a Saint punt, Ragland was back in business at their own 46. Four plays later, Daniels scored from 12 yards out. The extra point by Bice was good to make it 21-0 with 6:32 remaining before halftime.
The Purple Devil defense caused a fumble deep in St. Bernard territory and recovered at the 8-yard line. On the next play, quarterback Keshawn Killings scored on an 8-yard keeper. Bice added the PAT to make it 28-0
St. Bernard turned the ball over again on an interception and Ragland drove 76 yards in 6 plays as Orlando Sepeda scored on a 3-yard run with 34 seconds remaining in the first half Bice was good on his fifth PAT of the first half to make the halftime score 35-0.
After Karsen Jade Canas was crowned 2009 homecoming queen for Ragland at halftime, the two teams got back down to business in the second half.
Jeffery Smith returned the second half kick-off 56 yards to the St. Bernard 38-yard line. Seven plays later, John Brewster scored from 2 yards out. The snap from center on the PAT was mishandled and Bice was tackled for a loss. The score was 41-0 with 8:29 remaining in the third quarter.
Ragland played a lot of players and worked on running the clock the rest of the game. St. Bernard did get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as they drove 75 yards in 8 plays with quarterback Ty Sissom scoring on a 12-yard run. The two-point conversion was no good and the final score was 41-6.
Ragland is 3-1 in region play. They travel to Jacksonville Christian Academy next week.
