SYLACAUGA – Plans are in place for a fun day at the Sylabration music and family festival on June 2.

The event features performances by Grammy award-winning country group Diamond Rio and “Animal House” band Otis Day and the Knights, along with music from several local artists, plenty of children’s activities, food, giveaways and more.

“We are very excited about how the day has come together,” said Margaret Morton, event organizer and Sylacauga Alliance for Family Enhancement director. “It’s going to be a beautiful day, and we’re going to have a lot of fun. Everything is ready to roll.”

Adult tickets are $25 pre-paid and $30 the day of the event. Children ages 12 and under get in free. Gates open at 3 p.m. with festivities going from about 4 until 9 p.m.

A Kid’s Zone will have inflatables, a bungee jump, a kid’s stage and door prizes. There will also be a “Books, Blocks and Balls” activity center with six stations for children and parents to go through including book-making and the belly ball roll. The Kid’s Zone opens around 3:30 p.m. and closes at dark.

Performances begin on the kid’s stage at 4 p.m. with local artists Amy Holcomb, Griffith and Carter and Out of Shame.

Otis Day and the Knights open on the main stage at 6:30 p.m. with songs like “Shout” and “Shama Lama Ding Dong.”

An awards ceremony at 7:30 will recognize Sylacauga as a five-time winner of the Nation’s 100 Best Communities for Young People award presented by the America’s Promise Alliance. The Spirit of Promise award will also be given during this time.

Diamond Rio, known for hits like “One More Day” and “Beautiful Mess,” takes the stage at 8 p.m.

Concessions will be available all day from the Sylacauga and B. B. Comer high schools band boosters. Other food vendors and free Monster energy drinks will be set up around the stadium.

There will also be $1 raffle tickets near the Kid’s Zone for the chance to win a La-Z-Boy recliner.

Parking will be on North Norton Avenue in the J. Craig Community Center and Sylacauga High School lots and in the old Food World parking lot on Main Avenue. Guests can park in the premier lot on the B. B. Comer side of Legion Stadium for $25. Sixth Street will be closed during the event.

All the proceeds from Sylabration will create a disaster relief fund to support local and state efforts for recovery, response and preparedness.

Sylabration is still accepting sponsorships at the bronze, silver, gold and platinum levels.
