Sylacauga Thanksgiving reason for thanks

When the citizens of Sylacauga celebrate Thanksgiving, they mean it. They open the doors to Reaching the World Bible Church, and hundreds of people walk through, take a plate in hand and help themselves to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings.

It is part of Sylacauga’s Promise to take care of its own, and each year it grows more and more.

The first year, volunteers served more than 200 people. This year, more than 200 had made reservations almost two weeks away without publicity beckoning them.

Organizers expect 2,000 meals will be served Thanksgiving Day, and that’s quite a feat for this feast. It simply underscores the need for such an event.

We salute Sylacauga’s Promise and the dozens of volunteers that make the communitywide Thanksgiving dinner happen each year. It is more than just serving up a healthy helping of holiday fare, it is serving the city and its citizens to the best of their ability.

And that is certainly a cause worth supporting.
