Sylacauga High senior TJ Green committed to ACC powerhouse Clemson as an athlete on Sunday morning. The success Clemson has had the last few seasons made a major impact on Green.
“ I just had a feeling that is where I needed to be to put myself in position to not only won on a high level, but come in and contribute early,” Green said.
Since making a visit to Cincinnati on Jan.19 other major Division I programs have shown interest. Auburn offered Green a scholarship on Friday when he took his official visit to Clemson, but it was too late.
“It was hard sometimes, but I pretty much knew Clemson was the place for me,” Green said. “Auburn offered on the same day that I went to Clemson, but I pretty much knew, after taking to the coaches, that Clemson was the place for me.”
Green verbally committed to UAB on Thanksgiving. The 6-foot-2, 190 pound athlete said that UAB head coach Garrick McGee supported Green’s decision to decommitt on Sunday morning.
“ I called coach Mchee and told him that I committed to Clemson,” Green said. “He knew I had the ability to play on a bigger stage.”
Green had a stellar career for Sylacauga as a wide receiver and safety on the Aggies football team.
Green will officially sign with the Tigers on National Signing Day, Feb. 6.
