The Winterboro Bulldogs (3-3, 3-1) lost their first region game of the season last week.
They hope to bounce back from that loss to Loachapoka with a win over the Wadley Bulldogs (3-3, 3-1) on Friday.
A win over Wadley would be something new for Winterboro. Records on the Alabama High School Football Historical Society’s web site does not list Winterboro as the winner of any of the games between the two teams. In addition to gaining another mark in the win column, a win over Wadley would help Winterboro stay in the hunt for hosting a first-round playoff game.
Winterboro head coach Adam Fossett said his team will need to utilize its speed to defeat Wadley on Friday.
“They’re big and physical,” Fossett said of Wadley. “They’re not quite as fast as they’ve been in the past. We’ve got to utilize our speed. I think we’re faster than they are and we can beat them to the corner.”
The Bulldogs will have Courtney Evans back on the field this week after the senior missed several games because of injury.
Wadley enters the game after a 48-20 victory over Donoho last week. Randy Sparks’ bunch racked up 332 yards of total offense while giving up 408 yards of offense to the Falcons.
Fossett said getting behind early against Loachapoka hurt Winterboro. That’s something the Bulldogs will try to avoid on Friday at Wadley. Winterboro’s defense also gave up 41 points in last week’s game, the most they’ve given up all season.
“If we show up to play, we’ll be all right,” Fossett said.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Wadley.
