Holly teams up with Green at Charlotte
05-23-2003
Pell City’s Harold Holly begins his new gig with Team Remsi on May 31, but the championship crew chief will take part in a “blast from the past” Saturday at Charlotte. Holly will team up with Jeff Green for the Carquest Auto Parts 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, competing for Team Amick Motorsports. The pairing will provide Holly and Green an opportunity to relive their glory days in the series — glory days that are only three years removed from the present. In 2000 Holly guided Green to eight poles and six wins en route to the NBS title. That year Holly and Green set a new Busch record by scoring the most top-5 finishes in a single season (25), and won the series by the largest points margin in history, 616. “Jeff and I were together for three years and that’s a long time in NASCAR,” said Holly, who announced he was the new crew chief and director of competition for Team Remsi Tuesday. “To us it’s like riding a bike — picking up right where we left off.” For Holly, Saturday’s event will mark just his second under the umbrella of Team Amick. With Lyndon Amick behind the wheel, the pair qualified 11th for the Aaron’s 312 at Talladega Superspeedway, but Amick was involved in the race’s massive crash and his day ended early. As for Green, he’ll be pulling double duty at Lowe’s since he will also drive the Dale Earnhardt Inc.-owned, AOL-sponsored Chevy Saturday night in NASCAR Winston Cup’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600.
