Lady Bulldogs take three

PIEDMONT — Tara Blanchard tallied 17 kills as Piedmont improved to 9-2 with wins over Weaver, Glencoe and Cleburne County on Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Weaver 25-2, 25-9, and Glencoe 25-6, 25-14. Scores from the Cleburne County match were not reported.

Weaver defeated Glencoe in straight games.

In addition to Blanchard's performance, Brittany Strott had 30 assists, and Miranda Stewart and Katie Hightower both had nine digs. Paige Smith had six aces, and Christy Minton had six kills.

Piedmont visits Alexandria on Thursday.

• It took three games, but Donoho picked up its second win of the season with a 25-19, 19-25, 15-11 win over Alexandria. Donoho then took care of Sacred Heart 25-4, 25-8.

Francis Barber did a little of everything for the Lady Falcons (3-6) as she collected 12 aces, 13 kills and 12 digs.

Grace Fink added 13 kills and 10 digs. Kelsey Crawford had 39 assists, two aces and eight digs.

Donoho travels to Ohatchee on Thursday and will play in the Oxford tournament on Saturday.

• Faith Christian downed Ragland 25-17, 25-14 to move above .500.

Megan Purdy had nine kills and Bobbie Gray five. Courtney Hughes had seven aces, and Chelsea Robinson had 14 assists for the Lady Lions (3-2).

• Ohatchee went three games to knock off Saks, then swept Westbrook Christian.

Against Saks, the Lady Indians won 22-25, 25-10, 16-14. Against Westbrook, they won 25-13, 25-18.

Setter Peri Bryant went down with a twisted ankle after posting 30 assists against Saks. Against Westbrook, junior Brittany Graham filled in and tallied 15 assists.

Laneshia Anderson and Jasmine Crook had 19 and 14 kills, respectively.

Ohatchee plays host to Wellborn and Donoho in a tri-match on Thursday.

• At Wellborn, Wellborn picked up an area win over Altamont 25-11, 25-9 and defeated Calhoun County foe White Plains 25-18, 25-16.

Wellborn (8-3 overall, 3-0 area) was led by senior Shelby Perry with 12 assists and nine aces. Latoya Ellington had 11 kills and Briana Gardner six. Jessica Gardner added eight digs.

• Pleasant Valley improved to 7-4 spliting a tri-match with Cherokee county and Ashvile. The Lady Raiders fell to Cherokee County 25-21, 19-25, 15-12. They knocked off Ashville 25-21, 25-18.
