Is it ESP or just chance?

Larry White
08-21-2008

Extra Sensory Perception (ESP) is the strange ability to predict things in the future before they actually happen.

Let’s just say, for instance, on the night before a fishing trip to a lake I had never seen before, I dreamed I caught a 10-pound bass beside a sunken log with a forked limb sticking out of the water beside it.

And sure enough, the next day I got up at 4 a.m. and headed for the lake. It happened just like it did in my dream. After a good battle I finally landed the huge fish.

After hauling this bass around in my live well for several hours and thinking about it, I started leaning toward the fact that maybe ESP didn’t have anything to do with catching this fish. Maybe it was actually my fishing skills and knowledge that brought that trophy bass and me together.

I would have cast beside that log even without dreaming about it anyway. Sure, I have been fishing long enough to know where a big bass like that would hang out.

I don’t need any outside help from ESP. All I needed was someone to see that monster bass so I could do a little bragging.

I didn’t have any scales so I had to guess at the weight, but I was sure it would go at least 10 pounds. I took the bass out of the live well and held it up to my extended arm to get an accurate measurement to its length. It was almost as long as my entire arm.

This was truly a monster trophy.

Suddenly, the bass gave a violent flounce, slipped out of my hand, hit the edge of the boat and back into the lake it went. I was totally sick. I didn’t have a picture of the fish, and even worse, not a single person had seen it.

That night I was still sick about losing fish. I went to bed without eating. How could I have been so stupid?

As I drifted off to sleep my subconscious mind told me that I was having the same dream over again, but this time when it got to the part where I dropped the fish back in the water I was much more careful.

This time I made it back with the fish. I showed it to many people and now it hangs on my den wall.

Over the years I have given much thought to these fishing trips and the dreams. The only thing I can figure is that 4 a.m. was just too early to go fishing because the ESP dream is not usually finished until about 6 a.m.

I wonder just exactly how many big bass I have missed because I went fishing too early.
