They defeated Thorsby 35-14 as Jamal Brock rushed for 272 yards and scored four touchdowns. Brock had touchdown runs of 65, 15, 54 and 16 yards to lead the Purple Devil ground attack. As a team, the Purple Devils rushed for 373 yards. The second time Ragland had the ball, Brock scored on a 65-yard touchdown run. The PAT by Chris Trammell was good and with just under five minutes left in the first quarter, Ragland was up 7-0. Following a Thorsby punt, Ragland needed only three plays and one Thorsby personal foul to get on the scoreboard again. This time, the touchdown was a 15-yard run by Brock. Again, the PAT by Trammell was good and the score was 14-0 after the first quarter. The first time Ragland had the ball in the second quarter, they needed only four plays to go 80 yards with Brock eating up 54 yards on the touchdown run. Trammell's PAT was good to make the score 21-0. That would be the halftime score. The Purple Devils took the second half kick-off and marched 55 yards, all on the ground, in just six plays. The big run in the drive was an 18-yard scamper by Justin Daniels. The touchdown came on an 11-yard run by Edwin Rogers. Trammell's PAT was no good and the score was 27-0 with 9:01 remaining in the third quarter. Rogers intercepted a Thorsby pass six pays later and the Purple Devils were in business at the Thorsby 48. Eight pays later, Brock scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 16-yard run. Brock also ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 35-0 after three quarters of play. Thorsby scored two meaningless touchdowns in the fourth quarter to make the final score 35-14. Ragland is now 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in Region 5 of Class 1A. The win over Thorsby should have wrapped up a state playoff berth. Ragland hits the road again tomorrow as they travel to Winterboro to take on the Bulldogs. |
