The Leeds Police Department teamed up with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to reduce some of the criminal activities observed in some areas.Police had been planning the operation for more than a month.
On Dec. 14, an operation consisting of 22 sheriff’s deputies and four Leeds police officers including Police Chief Mike Walker served a warrant at a location on Vivian Street.
Walker said the police department had gotten a number of calls to the location including one stabbing.
The operation resulted in one charge of unlawful possession of marijuana, one charge of unlawful possession of a controlled substance believed to be methamphetamine, two charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and one charge of carrying a concealed weapon. Police also served three arrest warrants.
The building was ordered to be vacated for violation of the city’s building code.
Walker gave special thanks to Sgt. Brian Ebner who was key in planning the operation, and Doug Rush and Brad Watson who helped put the community policing concept into action by coming to the scene and enforcing the city’s building code.
