Lady Bulldogs improve to 9-5

The Ashville Lady Bulldogs are 9-5 on the season after beating Boaz and Moody during the past week. In between the two wins was a heart-breaking, last-second loss to Douglas.

Ashville 54, Boaz 53

Clutch free-throw shooting by Ariel Carpenter and Destiny Lane down the stretch helped the Lady Bulldogs edge Boaz 54-53. The two teams were tied 12-12 after the first quarter, and then Ashville started pulling away in the second period as they enjoyed a 30-22 halftime lead.

The Lady Bulldogs were still up 40-35 headed into the fourth quarter and they held on to win 54-53.

Lane finished the game with 22 points, while Carpenter pumped in 14 points. Holley Brown scored six points, while Kayla Ambrosius netted five points. Immori Cater chipped in four points, while Feleshia Williams had two points. Kim Fuller finished the game with one point.

Douglas 66, Ashville 63

With the game tied 63-63, Douglas put up a desperation shot as the horn sounded. The shot was good and Douglas won 66-63.

The Lady Eagles were up 15-12 after the first quarter and still leading 33-30 at halftime.

Douglas enjoyed a huge 52-42 lead headed into the fourth quarter before Ashville made its comeback.

Lane led Ashville with 17 points. Carpenter and Ambrosius scored 15 points each, while Brown netted 10 points. Cater scored three points, while Aurora Leal totaled two points. Fuller had one point.

Ashville 62, Moody 30

Ten Ashville players scored as the Lady Bulldogs got back in the win column with a 62-30 victory over the Moody Lady Blue Devils.

Ashville led 18-10 after the first quarter and stretched its lead to 34-14 at intermission. They outscored Moody 17-8 in the third frame to open up a 51-22 lead and went on to win with ease 62-30.

Carpenter was the leading scorer for Ashville with 14 points. Williams pumped in 12 points, while Ambrosius had nine points. Brown totaled six points, while Mara Mattison, Brandi Looney, Cater and Fuller all had four points each. Lane was held to three points, but she had seven assists. Leal scored two points.

Leading the Lady Blue Devils was Ashley Wilkerson with 10 points. Sha Vandergrift scored eight points, while Cameron Dizaar had four points. Lindsay Davis chipped in two points.
